Month after month, cycle after cycle, this feeling is pretty consistent. I can almost count on it. I call it my “Divine Premenstrual Dissatisfaction.” In the past, this sense of dissatisfaction often brought me down, making me feel moody and depressed. Gradually, I realized that this dissatisfaction is actually “divine” because it comes from my spirit, which gives me clues as to the necessary adjustments I need to make in order to enhance my life. It tells me the areas of my life that are out of balance. It reminds me of the unresolved emotions in my dealings with people. It shows me the areas that I need to pay more attention to – in work, relationships or myself. It guides me to make the changes that are called for. It forces me to be brutally honest with myself. It pushes me to learn, to grow and to be a bigger person. During the premenstrual and menstrual phases of our cycles, we women are especially sensitive to our intuitive guidance from within. Sometimes our inner guidance surfaces as pain, dissatisfaction, discontentment, fear, irritability, anxiety or anger, which makes us feel uncomfortable. Discomfort aside, it often carries an important message: It tells us which areas of our lives are out of alignment with our true and authentic self. So instead of brushing it off or pushing it aside, we can learn to sit with the feeling of discomfort, listen to our inner guidance, and use it as fuel to propel us to make the necessary changes needed in our lives.
