Psychologist Geoffrey Miller and his colleagues from the University of New Mexico examined ovulatory cycle effects on top earnings by 5,300 professional lap dancers working in gentlemen's club. His research showed that girls who were not on the pill earned about $335 per 5-hour shift during peak fertility, $260 per shift during the premenstrual phase, and $185 per shift during menstruation. By contrast, girls using contraceptive pills showed no fertility earnings peaks. In another study named “A Woman's Voice Can Tell You How Fertile She Is,” researchers found a significant increase in voice attractiveness ratings during ovulation phase in naturally cycling women, and no effect for women using contraceptive pills. And according to a previous research, the sound of a person's voice appears to serve as an honest signal of fitness. So what’s the significance of this information? If we are indeed fitter and more attractive during ovulation, perhaps we should time significant events on our calendars, like job interviews, around ovulation and not during menstruation.
