Orgasm: The Magical Cure for PMS Symptoms  E-mail
By Jing J.

orgasm-cure-for-pms-symptomsDid you know that for centuries one of the most popular treatments for “hysteria” was manual stimulation to orgasm by a medical doctor? If you haven’t heard of hysteria, it’s this mysterious catchall of female ailments that existed in recorded history for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Egyptian times. It gained real prevalence during the Victorian Era, and eventually declined in the early 20th century.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Women considered to be suffering from hysteria exhibited a wide array of symptoms including faintness, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, heaviness in abdomen, muscle spasms, shortness of breath, irritability, loss of appetite for food or sex, and "a tendency to cause trouble.”

Sounds familiar? It wasn’t until 1953 that an English scientist, Dr. Katharina Dalton, coined the new term “Premenstrual Syndrome” or “PMS.” Ever since then, it’s become the hysteria of the modern era.

From hysteria to PMS. The name may have changed, but the symptoms are strikingly similar. And the mystery remains, even though modern science has developed many sensible explanations and sophisticated treatment methods.

I couldn’t help but wonder though, if orgasm was a proven and popular treatment for hysteria, could it also be a “magic pill” to relieve PMS symptoms?

The good news is that nowadays women don’t have to go to a doctor’s office to get a fine genital massage. They can get it from their lovers, or give it to themselves by self-pleasure or with the aid of a vibrator (a device invented in 1873 to help women reach orgasm without leaving their homes).

From my experience, self-pleasure, self-caring, and self-love are great cures for PMS symptoms. What’s your experience?

Very informative post! Premenstrual syndrome is a physical and emotional symptoms related to a woman's menstrual cycle. Most prominent symptoms are irritability, tension, and dysphoria or unhappiness. PMS most often occurs in women with normal menstrual cycles. During the normal menstrual cycle, the ovaries make two main hormones, called estrogen and progesterone. PMS is not caused by stress.

Thank you for your input Goji Berries. Even though stress does not cause PMS per se, it can aggravate PMS symptoms. Effectively managing stress is a very important aspect of managing PMS.

Thanks for sharing Julie! Even though orgasm is such a great cure, I find myself less interested in sex during the premenstrual phase. Don't know if anyone shares a similar experience. I know some women have heightened sexual desire during premenstrual and menstrual phases. I do hope to somehow utilize this great remedy :-)

Julie, I completely agree with you on the point of stress. It certainly is a big factor that aggravates PMS symptoms. I watch my stress level carefully. Even when sometimes I think I'm managing it effectively, my body still tells me otherwise. It's a continuous learning and adjusting process for sure.

I hadn't noticed... I should try it out just for educational purposes, of course ;) but I do have an increased sexual drive during my menses... I just hate the bloody mess (no pun intended!) afterwards. That and I can't stand the smell of blood itself... Maybe shower sex could be the answer? Sorry ladies... I can get a little TMI at times, but I'd love to hear some feedback.
Many blessings!
Sonia

According to Chinese Medicine, having sexual intercourse while menstruating may have potential side effects.Check out my article here: cycleharmony.com/.../....

It's interesting that many ladies have increased sex drive right before menstruation. So I'd say maybe best to have orgasm premenstrual - to cure PMS and to satisfy increased sexual desires :)
